This is a gear review of the Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoe in 2024. They have been good enough to make it into the Best Lightweight Hiking Shoes review list when they were released.

If you are looking for a pair of comfortable and waterproof hiking shoes that are lightweight then the Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoes could be for you. Keep reading to learn more.

I have used hiking shoes for 1000s of miles when hiking and backpacking all around the world. I wore Vasque hiking shoes on the Appalachian Trail and for half of the Continental Divide Trail. And overall, I have worn and tested 8 pairs of Vasque shoes over the last couple of years. So I feel I am in a good place to be able to review the updated Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoe.

How We Tested

The Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoe in this review has been extensively evaluated and researched by the expert author who has more than 30 years of experience in Thru-Hiking, Backpacking, and Hiking. He also spent several years managing a hiking retail store that used to fit hiking shoes to customers and is regarded as an expert in this field. The shoes were supplied by the manufacturer. In-Depth Review: Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoes

Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Hiking Shoes

Weight: 1 lb. 9 oz / 716 grams per pair
Pros:

> Lightweight
> Waterproof
> Very good traction on the sole
> Good level of cushioning
Cons:
> The suede leather can be hard to clean when it gets dirty

I was a big fan of the now discontinued Vasque Breeze Low Hiking Shoes. They were comfortable, provided a good grip and I didn’t get any blisters. They have been replaced by the Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoes.

My first impressions of these shoes were their weight or lack of weight. They feel more like a stiff-soled pair of trail running shoes. Like all Vasque footwear, they feel comfortable right out of the box.

Materials

The Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoes are made from a combination of Suede leather, recycled mesh, EVA foam footbed, and a super grippy Vibram outsole.

Nice rubber tow cap that is solid enough to protect your toes from damage while hiking.

Waterproof

Vasque uses its own version of a waterproof membrane that they call Nature Tex. Just like Gore-Tex and other waterproof membranes, it allows water vapers to transfer out of the shoe while preventing water from ingressing into the shoe. In theory and practice, it does a good job of preventing water from getting to the shoes.

For anyone hiking in very hot environments such as the tropics or deserts, the shoe will get a bit hot and stuffy at does not breath as well as a non-waterproof version. This is no different from any other pair of waterproof shoes.

Breathability

The Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoes are waterproof and not as breathable as non-waterproof versions

Traction And Outsoles

The Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoes have a very aggressive and very grippy outsole.

While they are very aggressive and provide a very high level of grip, those same aggressive lugs could wear down quickly for some people. Especially if you are only hiking on hard surfaces.

After spending several months of hiking in these shoes there is very little wear on the tread, which I must admit surprised me. With such aggressive tread, it should have worn out quickly but did not. The tread is much more wear-resistant than they look, good job Vasque.

For those hiking on dirt surfaces or mud, these are one of the best options on the market when it comes to grip.

Overall, the traction provided by these shoes is superior to many others on the market. The outsole material is a little softer than I would like which could lead to quick wear for some people.

Weight

The Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low are lightweight hiking shoes coming in at only 1 lb. 9 oz / 716 grams per pair. Not only are they lightweight, but they feel lightweight when walking.

In comparison to all the best lightweight hiking shoes on the market, these shoes are among the best of the best. Few are lighter and you will need to move to a pair of trail running shoes if you want something lighter, even if trail runners will not provide the same level of support.

Comfort and Support

When compared to other lightweight hiking shoes the Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low shoes are very comfortable. Right out of the box they fit well and are true to size. While they are comfortable right out of the box they will improve over time as the suede leather will expand or shrink to micro fit whatever shape is needed.

The size and width of the shoes are aimed squarely at the middle ground. Being the best for almost anyone except those with very wide feet or very narrow feet. When testing these shoes I have a medium to wide foot shape and they fit well and improved over time. It seems that Vasque has made these shoes slightly narrower than previous Vasque models.

The shape of the shoe also fits well. The toe box is average size and they have not moved to the trendy wide toebox style for this shoe. The rear of the shoe is narrow which provides a good lock on the rear heel of the foot. I had no issues with heel slippage and therefore no issues with blisters.

Having worn these shoes for several months during testing I can attest to the fact that these shoes feel very comfortable. Over time, they have molded to fit my feet perfectly. So much so, that I not only wear these shoes for hiking and backpacking, I also wear them around town and at home. Not too many hiking shoes can be comfortable enough for me to do this.

Sizing

The Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low is true to size. Like all hiking shoes, you should ensure that you order a pair that is one size larger than your normal shoes. This will ensure you have enough room for your feet to swell when hiking all day. They will swell, this is normal and happens to everyone. The extra size will also allow for a thick pair of hiking socks to be worn if needed.

Lacing System

The lacing system of the Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low shoe is similar to almost every other type of hiking shoe on the market in 2024. The laces are strong and lock in place very quite well. Overall, there is not much to complain about when it comes to the laces, they just work as they should.

Break-In Period

The Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoes will not need any break-in as they are comfortable right out of the box.

The only exception will be for people who have soft feet and are not used to wearing hiking shoes all day or are going hiking for the first time. If you are one of those people, don’t worry, just wear the shoes around the house for a few days before hitting the trail. They will be fine after that.

When I tested the Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoes I had no issues with blisters, no issues with the shoes rubbing in places that made them uncomfortable, and no issues with the sizing or fit. They just feel like a really comfortable pair of lightweight hiking shoes.

After several months of testing, there are still no blisters or any other performance issues.

Hiking Shoe Insoles

The insoles used on the Vasque Breeze are comfortable, and soft and provide enough support for most people. For anyone with foot issues, it could be better to add a quality pair of hiking insoles or even custom orthotics.

Socks

The Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low shoes are best worn with a good quality pair of Hiking Socks. A mid-length sock would be best for most people. Anyone who likes to wear liner socks or toe socks under a pair of thick hiking socks may find these shoes to be a bit of a tight fit.

Price

The Vasque comes at a reasonable price. There are more expensive and cheaper options available.

Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoe Vs the Rest

In comparison to all the best lightweight hiking shoes on the market in 2024. They are one of the best when it comes to comfort, weight, and traction. People with narrow feet may prefer the Salomon range of shoes and those with wider feet may prefer Keen. Anyone on a budget may prefer Merrel. But in comparison to the other hiking shoes on the market the Vasque Breeze LT NTX Low Shoes represent good quality.

Conclusion

The Vasque are super comfortable and lightweight hiking shoes best suited for hiking on dirt trails or soft ground. The traction is superior to almost all hiking shoes on the market in 2024. For anyone planning on spending their time hiking on hard paved trails should consider a hiking shoe with a more durable sole.

Overall, they are one of the lightest and most comfortable pairs of hiking shoes available this year.
